Action Research

SEARCH-NEPAL's (SN's) action research serves as: (a) contextualizing our development interventions;  (b) building capacity growth of our stakeholders, (c) learning for improved action through knowledge management and institutional memory, and (d) directly helping the community members meet their immediate development needs. SN embraces an empowerment approach utilizing community mobilization and capacitating them to plan, self monitor and evaluate their own small scale self-help development projects based on self-reliance. At its strongest, SN's initiatives serve as public hearings to promote pluralistic democracy, good governance, participation and ownership.  Regular, structured social auditing (citizens monitoring), furthermore, ensures that service providers and duty bearers, i.e. public services, public institutions, I/NGOs and political parties affirm their pledges. Such impetuses at the grassroots level ensures a participative process; strengthening transparency, accountability, corruption free space and effective governance - leading to stable democracy and peace in the community and the nation.

Community analysis, mobilization and empowerment (based on rights based approach and advocacy for positive action) characterize SN's action research in the field. Nepal is rich in terms of biodiversity, environment and socio-cultural heritage, nevertheless, it is economically and materially still a poor country. Thus, efforts are geared towards providing basic services from various multi-stakeholder development institutions.  SN strives to network and provide these services by linking synergistic actions from various development actors such as the government, non-government and funding partners.  The applied research and practical action pursued by SN results in generating valuable experience and knowledge. The institutional memory and knowledge, generated through micro level projects, find expression in shaping policy, building capacity and creating awareness for public education at the wider macro level. SN’s strategic priorities and practical actions are focused towards the following agendas.
